Coaching FAQ’s

  • Coaches utilise techniques to help their clients in all aspects of life. If you've ever struggled with something - whether it be moving out of your comfort zone, improving your confidence or starting healthy habits, then consulting a life coach could help you.

At 4Front, I approach things pragmatically. Through questions and exercises, I will try to get an idea of how you perceive the world. From this, I will be able to identify the most effective route to your goal.

Some people feel intimidated by the idea of change and so need to take things slowly to fulfil their goals. In this situation, we might divide goals into smaller bite-sized pieces. Other people may get impatient and lose interest. In this situation, we might introduce stronger reminders and incentives to keep you on track.

However how you approach life, I will be able to tailor your sessions to fit.

A coach’s role is that of one who holds the belief that the leader has unlimited potential to achieve their goal and live their true potential. I can help you with living your true potential in many ways. Some of these are:

Greater self-awareness: Find the ability to appreciate your strengths and consistently operate from them.

Greater impact: Deliver greater impact professionally – on people, culture and business; and personally – in areas of life that you value, by unlocking your best self.

Easier Transitions: Make more intentional decisions. And succeed in a new career, role or assignment, by navigating the challenges and learning demands in new unfamiliar circumstances.

Clarity and alignment – Purpose: Answer the questions ‘Who am I?’ and ‘Why am I here?’ Through alignment with your purpose, find energy, joy and flow, and ultimately, greater success and fulfilment.

Harnessing a growth mindset: Nurture the courage to take on bigger challenges, the resilience to work through them, and the flexibility to adapt and succeed in an ever-changing world.

Synergy, effectiveness and impact of leadership team: Operate in sync, aligned to a common purpose and shared goals, to deliver greater impact. Enable your leadership team to unleash success through the rest of the organisation.

  • Coaching sessions will typically last between 45 minutes to an hour. Often, after an initial assessment, sessions can be conducted face-to-face or virtually. After the initial introduction session, we will jointly determine what is the best fit for your need. Future sessions can then be anything from 5 minutes to 3 hours, depending on your need.

During the session, I will ask you some questions, such as what you want to achieve, what areas you're unhappy with and where you'd like to see yourself in the future. Although a coach will work with you, it’s often up to you to challenge or reflect upon certain ideas you have to help you move forward within your life. You will never be forced to make any decisions you don't feel comfortable with, and all sessions will be confidential, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings privately in a safe space.

Coaching is often seen as a partnership between us, and I will gently encourage you to explore how to make positive changes in your life based on your aspirations. As your coach I will also offer support and feedback to help you to stay focused on your goals and will occasionally set you tasks and objectives to work on outside of sessions.

  • There are many coaching styles used to address different situations and to direct a coaching session. Depending on your goals and how you wish to achieve these, I will assess and determine a coaching style with the best fit.

  • Coaching focuses more on the client in the here and now and conducts sessions with the future as the central point to encourage personal development and self-improvement, whereas counselling is a form of talking therapy associated with assessing the individual in the here and now but working to determine past events that have contributed to their client’s current struggles. A counsellor will help clients develop coping mechanisms and strategies to move forward with their life.

4Front does not provide Counselling services and as such, if this is what you are seeking, we can support you to find a service to suit your needs.

  • The term ‘life coach’ encompasses a range of areas. Within these areas, a coach may choose to home in on a specific topic such as resilience, health or wellbeing.

Business coaches have expertise in the business world and therefore choose to coach individuals looking to excel in business. This could include entrepreneurs, company owners, CEOs or even employees. To find out more about what a business coach could offer you, please visit our coaching page.

  • You can have as many or as few coaching sessions as you like. Because I operate over the phone or via the Internet, the sessions can easily fit around your schedule. Some people hire a coach once every few months, some people have a session once a week. It is entirely up to you to decide.

  • Coaching is currently an unregulated profession in the UK, meaning anyone can essentially call themselves a life coach. Because of this, it’s wise to do your research. However, I am fully certified (subject to supervision) via the Institute of Leadership and Management and Coaching and Mentoring (ILM), and I am an accredited member of the European mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and abide by the Global code of Ethics. I am also fully insured; a copy of insurance can be provided on request.

Still, qualifications and memberships mean little if you don't get on with your coach. I strongly believe that building a positive rapport is essential. As such, I offer the initial power hour for free, to allow you to test if our relationship is one that you can see working for you long term.

  • On average you can expect to pay approximately £120 per session, however, I recognise that every person is different, and as such, I tailor the package of support to meet your needs. There are many impacts that affect the price of the coaching services I offer. Get in contact for a free power hour to see if coaching can benefit you and what a package might look like.

Equally, if you are looking for leadership coaching for multiple staff within a business, we can look to provide facilitated programs and packages where you can purchase a number of sessions upfront for a reduced price.

If you have any queries about the prices, then drop me an email, or complete 4Fronts contact form and I will be more than happy to explain what the cost includes and what you could get out of the sessions.

  • The underlying belief in coaching is that every individual has the ability to find solutions to their challenges from within themselves. They just need someone to help them discover and uncover those solutions.

  • A coach does not advise. A coach believes the client has the answers and the ability to find them. A good coach operates as a good listener and from a client’s mindset.

A coach does not rescue. A coach coaches but does not become a crutch.

A coach does not get involved in the client’s problems.

A coach does not set the agenda for the client.

A coach does not sit in judgement of the coachee or their specific challenges.

A coach does not dictate the solution and the timing of the coachee’s journey.

  • A mentor uses their experience in having dealt with similar challenges to advise the client. Coaching believes that every individual has the ability to find solutions to their challenges themselves. They just need someone to help them discover and uncover those solutions.

In coaching, the client always sets the agenda. The coach holds no brief for the client’s agenda and approaches every session from a learner’s mindset.

  • In consulting a subject matter expert delivers the answers. The consultant may know of several ways of doing things and the consultant provides an answer that is appropriate. In consulting, the consultant is dependent on the client’s review, approval, and implementation of their work.

A coach believes their client has all their best answers within them and the coach supports the client in accessing their truth to find the most effective answer for themselves. In coaching, the client is responsible for doing all the work to create forward movement.

  • Leadership Coaching is the term given to a coaching process focused on leaders or leadership, where an individual client or a team gets customised help from a coach to help achieve their goals and become a more effective leader or leadership team.
